Camping in Victoria around October

Hi All!
Well, I'm new to camping and having read through most of your forum would like some help on a few matters!
I am trying to organise a camping trip later in the year, probably around October (what's the weather/crowds like around this time?) and would like some suggestions on sites.
We'd like to really avoid the crowds and winter (hence the time we're going).
Although it'd be nice, facilities such as BBQs, toilets, etc aren't necessary and anywhere upto about 3 hours from the CBD is fine. We will not be taking any 4WDs which may rule out some of the locations.

Our main goal is to find somewhere at least semi-secluded, where we won't have to worry about sharing a campsite and can have a fire. We'll probably have a weekend trip for a couple of nights.

Also, if there are any suitable sites where fishing and/or hiking with views are available nearby that'd be perfect!

Looking forward to reading all your opinions and suggestions! Thanks.

Hi Titch!
I wasn't even aware that school holidays would be around that time!
But because the date is still TBD, I will be aiming for NON school break.
I'm on the east side of Melb. A bit north too.
