Calling families to camp in the SEQld region (and beyond?)

Postby drCarls » Thu Apr 23, 2009 3:26 pm

Hi all,
I know we're getting into winter and while I don't mind the occasional winter camp, with 2 small children under 5, August onwards is starting to look more appealing. However, what I would like to do is start to generate some interest camping as groups. As a married woman whose husband does not like to be venture bound as much as I do, I tend to holiday with the kids quite a bit on my own. That makes tent camping near impossible on my own (the kids just don't quite hold those tent poles where they are meant to!!) and even hiring a campervan.... it just seems so hard on my own. It would be nice to have some other families to laugh with when I pound my thumb with the hammer while hammering tent pegs, you know??? the kids will love having other kids around too.

A bit about us:
I'm in my 30's with 2 girls aged 2 and 4. Since having the kids, we have only tent camped at Kingscliffe but I'd like to hire a camper trailer to try (possibly buy) and would like to start going back to Girraween where my husband and I used to camp a lot as pre-kid adults... :) I work in health research and my husband (as he will join us sometimes) works in IT.

I'm calling all families - 2-parent, single, kids, no kids (but be warned you'd best like kids even if you don't have your own :) to go on hols with - to share the 'child watching', to share the stories of pain (I mean joy) of parenting... Sunshine Coast region, GC region.... out west.

Must like drinking wine by the campfire... (ok you don't have to like drinking wine by the campfire... but I will be)

Looking forward to responses......

drCarls, what a great post!
If I weren't in VIC, I'd say we'd be there!!!
The wife and I have a 6&1/2 and 3 yo to drag along (They went on their first camping adventure over Easter and didn't batter an eyelid!)
We are all for more camping!

I can't believe hubby won't get out there with you!!??!!

I hope you manage to organise something great, then post pics !!!!!

Cheers,
Dick

Yep...I totally agree Carla...GREAT POST. Let's hope you can get some camping adventures up and happening.

I don't have any children but you just never know might be inclined to tag along on one of your weekends. Good luck.

Cheers Gypsy....

PS...I'll have a couple of drinkies by the campfire with you.....some port or moonshine madness in winter would be great.

Hi Carla,
I like to go camping with my 3yo but like you, my hubby doesn't really like to camp. And I know how hard it is to find someone to go with. So I would be interested in joining you on a camping weekend.
Just to let you know, I have a week booked at Tallebudgera from 20 Nov -27Nov, if you want to come along. I have recently bought a camper trailer and will be trying it out for the first time then. I also will be staying at Talle over chrissy.
So far, I have stuck with mostly caravan parks for the ease of things (and I love the beach) but I would like to venture out a bit to other places.
Look forward to hearing from you.

It is at the Gorge Campground near Aratula. Details of the camp ground including maps and photographs can be found here.

Hi all,
First time on forums. My wife and I just bought a new camper trailer upgrading from the small tent.
We have 2 boys aged 10 and 8.
We have booked a test weekend at Pottsville sth which a lot of people have said is beautiful right on the river and beach.
Our second adventure is going to be at Bunderburg in June holidays on the water.
Will keep you posted on how it goes.
